Truly, I have to say it's been one of my biggest fears as a mom. Maybe it's because I had a traumatic tooth loss when I was 3, I don't know. However, I have always feared one of my children having a tooth knocked out and it came true yesterday. William was riding on a little toy (meant for toddlers) when his too-long legs tripped the little ride-on toy and he did a face plant onto the sidewalk. I could tell instantly from the way he landed that he had to be missing at least one tooth. I ran over, scooped him up and sure enough there was a front tooth missing. I scoured the sidewalk for the tooth, ran inside (had the other little ones follow me) and shoved toilet paper in his mouth. I quickly called my dad (a dentist) and we walked me through what needed to be done immediately and then he came out to take a look at him. Overall, he will be fine. He'll have to have a fake tooth made eventually, but for now he seems to be healing OK.
So, the Tooth Fairy visited last night. We heard the going rate is $5.00 for the first tooth, but we also felt that because this tooth was lost in such a traumatic fashion that William deserved a toy as well. So, he was really excited to wake up and find $5.00 in quarters (his preferred currency) as well as an Obi-Wan Kanobi action figure. I guess I'm relieved to know I've lived through one of my big motherhood fears, that William will be OK, and that my dad was around to help. Thanks Dad! Hopefully, that will be our last dental emergency. Here's a photo of my dear boy. Of course, we are scheduled for a professional family photo in 9 days. Let's hope he heals fast!

Will, you look like a tough guy and like you just came out of a boxing ring. I would like to see the other guy. I bet you look better already. Love Grandpa Fred
It was fun to see you the other day Will. You are so tough, you acted as if your lost tooth was no big deal. Can't wait to see your fake tooth!
Ohhhhh poor Will! And poor mommy! I must say however, he looks adorable with that swollen lip and sad face :-)
Poor little guy! That is one of my biggest fears too. So far we have been able to avoid it (although I'm not sure how). What a tough guy William is.
